Strengthening support for equipment utilization for development of special-purpose electric vehicles

기사입력2025.05.30 10:37

Rapid production and design of small-quantity, multi-type vehicles, and increased competitiveness in electric vehicle development
Goal of building ‘technology convergence’ and ‘cooperation network’ beyond simple support

The Korea Institute of Industrial Technology is significantly strengthening its support system for the use of cutting-edge equipment in line with the development of special-purpose electric vehicles (EVs) by small and medium-sized enterprises.

This support, which is being promoted as part of the project to create a horizontal EV industry ecosystem, is expected to significantly increase the competitiveness of electric vehicle development by maximizing efficiency throughout the entire process from rapid production of small-quantity, multi-type vehicles to design and performance verification.

▲The Korea Institute of Industrial Technology provides an environment where various equipment can be utilized to enable small and medium-sized companies to develop special-purpose electric vehicles (EVs).

First, Saenggiwon will introduce a structural analysis system in the field of parts design and analysis to precisely evaluate key elements of the vehicle's structural strength, durability, and rigidity, and support design optimization.

In addition, the automotive welding process reliability analysis system provides an environment for simulating welding and joining areas, helping to check for safety issues in advance from the initial design stage.

The crash analysis system secures safety by evaluating the vehicle's impact resistance and durability in the event of a collision, while it also enhances technological competitiveness in the electrification sector by closely analyzing the torque and efficiency of the drive motor using electromagnetic analysis simulation equipment.

Frame Parts In the manufacturing field, it provides a foundation for precisely forming various hollow pipes through a vehicle underbody frame bending machine, and supports high-speed cutting and precision welding operations by combining a laser 3D welding and cutting system with a manual laser welder.

In addition, the body assembly inspection system uses laser-based 3D measurement to improve the precision of parts throughout the entire process, including reverse engineering.

In the processing and molding of interior panels, the facility is equipped with 5-axis manufacturing equipment for electric vehicle chassis parts and a vacuum forming machine that can utilize various resin materials, ensuring speed and diversity in the production of prototypes of interior and exterior vehicle parts.

In the field of exterior parts forming, a flexible and efficient production process is realized with the introduction of variable progressive forming machines that can form parts by directly pressurizing metal sheets without a mold.

In addition, performance evaluation of batteries and drive motors is systematically performed using performance verification equipment such as motor dynamos and power supplies, ensuring quality and stability throughout the entire development process.

Experts evaluate that “this strengthened support for equipment utilization will dramatically improve the research and development capabilities of small and medium-sized companies and greatly contribute to enhancing competitiveness in the international market.”

In a rapidly changing electric vehicle market environment, customized development support based on technological innovation is expected to play a critical role in the rapid launch, safety verification, and performance maximization of special-purpose electric vehicles.

In addition, this support project is expected to be an important turning point in laying the foundation for the development of future electric vehicles through cooperation between the government, research institutes, and related companies.

As small and medium-sized companies secure their own technological capabilities and introduce innovative products based on this support, the domestic electric vehicle industry will be in the water. This will also provide a foundation for Ron to stand tall in the global market.

This support program by the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology goes beyond simple equipment provision and aims to build ‘technology convergence’ and a ‘cooperation network’ across the entire development of electric vehicles.

Through this, it is expected that not only will it be possible to secure a sustainable competitive edge in the future mobility market, but it will also play a leading role in contributing to the innovative development of the electric vehicle industry.
