Demand for high-temperature, large-capacity heat pumps is growing in industrial sites facing increasing pressure for carbon neutrality, serving as a means to replace existing fossil fuel facilities. LG Electronics has launched a full-scale offensive on the industrial market by supplying a heat pump system, which features improved water output temperature and capacity compared to existing industrial products, to a domestic paper company and commencing operations.

LG Electronics announced on the 8th that it supplied an industrial heat pump system with a discharge temperature of 108°C (maximum 118°C) and a maximum capacity of 1,040 RT to Ajin P&P, a paper company based in Daegu, and that it began operation early this month.

This project is a national initiative under the '2050 Carbon Neutrality' initiative led by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and has been pursued since 2023 by 15 industry-academia-research institutions, including LG Electronics.

This system is characterized by raising the water outlet temperature of existing industrial heat pumps from approximately 90°C to 108°C.

High-temperature water can be used in various industrial fields, such as paper mill drying processes, food factory sterilization processes, and chemical and oil refining industries.

LG Electronics explained that by applying its self-developed 'large-capacity lubrication-free magnetic bearing' technology, it eliminated lubrication-related constraints and reduced the burden of maintenance and electricity costs.

The refrigerant used was R-1233zd, which has a global warming potential (GWP) of 1.

With related technology, it won the 2024 Korea Technology Award and the 2026 IR52 Jang Young-sil Award.

According to global market research firm MarketsandMarkets, the industrial heat pump market is expected to grow to approximately $4.8 billion (about 6.5 trillion won) by 2026.

LG Electronics is expanding its heat pump business scope, which previously included industrial applications, to encompass residential and commercial uses.

In 2024, industrial water source heat pumps were supplied to the Korea Trade Center (COEX), and in 2025, district heating products were supplied to the Danish energy company Ørsted.

Currently in the US and Canada &It is continuing its order acquisition activities in North American and European markets, including Norway and Finland.

In Korea, it was selected as the top business operator after receiving the highest score in the evaluation of the '2026 Jeju Lifestyle Heat Pump Supply Project' organized by the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment and Jeju Special Self-Governing Province.

Lee Jae-sung, President of LG Electronics’ ES Business Division, said, “We will strengthen our global market penetration with core components and technological capabilities in the heat pump sector, which is fundamentally changing the way heating, cooling, and thermal energy are utilized in residential spaces, commercial facilities, and even industrial sites.”
