MathWorks, a global leader in technical computing software, is accelerating engineering innovation with MATLAB Copilot, a generative AI-powered product.

MathWorks announced on the 13th that it has officially launched MATLAB Copilot, a MATLAB assistant based on generative AI.

This feature is included in MATLAB and Simulink Release 2025b (R2025b) and is aimed at increasing productivity and accelerating development for engineers, scientists, and researchers.

MATLAB Copilot provides intelligent features that simplify coding, debugging, and learning within the MATLAB environment.

Users can ask questions through MATLAB Copilot Chat and Learn and receive reliable answers based on MathWorks documentation and real-world code examples, enabling quick access to information without external search.

The Code Smarter feature provides auto-completion and code prediction in the MATLAB editor, and generates code based on natural language descriptions to support more efficient prototyping development.

Also, understanding and improvement (UThe Understand and Improve feature allows you to explain unfamiliar code, add comments, analyze errors, and even generate test code, reducing debugging time and increasing collaboration efficiency.

“MATLAB Copilot empowers users to focus on engineering and research, not programming,” said Roy Lurie, vice president of Engineering at MathWorks. “By integrating generative AI into existing workflows, it strengthens MATLAB and Simulink as platforms for engineering innovation.”

“MATLAB Copilot is designed to work seamlessly within the MATLAB environment you already know, making the entire development process more intuitive and collaborative,” said Seth DeLand, senior product marketing manager for Generative AI.

With this release, MathWorks integrates generative AI technology directly into its engineering tools, empowering millions of users to design innovative systems faster and more accurately. In particular, MATLAB Copilot enables simultaneous complex problem solving and learning through advanced features like Explain Code and Explain Error.

More information and demonstrations about MATLAB Copilot can be found on the official MathWorks website.
