Provides 2.4x higher RAN capacity and 70% improved performance per watt compared to previous generations
At Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025, the world's largest mobile communications show, Intel demonstrated a next-generation network solution that delivers up to 2.4x more radio access network (RAN) capacity and 70% better performance-per-watt than the previous generation, proving that even mission-critical workloads can be efficiently processed on general-purpose silicon.
Intel announced high-performance and high-efficiency network solutions based on Xeon 6 at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025, the world's largest mobile communications exhibition.
Intel, working with more than 50 partners and customers, unveiled the Intel® Xeon® 6 system-on-a-chip (SoC) with integrated advanced AI acceleration capabilities, delivering up to 2.4x more radio access network (RAN) capacity and 70% improved performance-per-watt over the previous generation.
“Intel is helping telecom operators effectively implement 5G core and RAN virtualization through cloud technologies and partnerships,” said Sachin Katti, general manager of Intel’s Network and Edge Group.
With this Xeon 6 processor, Intel has proven that even mission-critical workloads can be handled efficiently on general-purpose silicon.
The Intel Xeon 6 SoC enhances AI acceleration capabilities to deliver maximum AI RAN performance over previous generations. It has been improved by up to 3.2 times and provides data throughput of up to 200 Gbps and 8 integrated Ethernet ports.
It delivers superior performance without requiring a separate accelerator, realizing optimal total cost of ownership (TCO).
This optimized design significantly reduces the number of servers, consolidating RAN sites onto a single server and enabling up to 14.25x performance-per-watt improvements in video transcoding.
Intel Xeon 6 SoC also focuses on strengthening security, supporting Zero Trust security from the edge to the cloud.
Innovation continues to drive ecosystem-wide innovation through collaboration with carriers. Major carriers including Vodafone, AT&T, Samsung, and Verizon are leveraging Xeon 6-based solutions to improve performance, energy efficiency, and optimize TCO.
The Intel Xeon 6 E-Core, launched in 2024, enables energy savings and performance maintenance at the same time. Energy efficiency has been improved by utilizing IPM software, and partners are proving sustainability in various real-world use cases through this.
