Launch of the 'L98GD8' 8-channel gate driver for mild hybrid systems.

STMicroelectronics, a global semiconductor company, is contributing to improving the efficiency of mild hybrid systems with a new gate driver optimized for 48V automotive power architecture.

ST announced on the 15th that it has released the 8-channel gate driver 'L98GD8'.

This new product operates from a 58V supply and supports flexible high-side and low-side configurations for driving MOSFETs, enhancing the safety and reliability of automotive electronic systems.

The 48V power grid powers a variety of loads, including integrated starter generators, electric compressors, pumps, fans, and valves, enhancing energy recovery capabilities and helping vehicles meet emission standards.

ST's L98GD8 is an integrated solution that can efficiently drive NMOS or PMOS FET gates in these 48V systems, contributing to expanded electrical drive modes and system weight reduction.

Looking at the main functions and features of the L98GD8, it allows flexible MOSFET control with eight independent output channels and supports DC motor driving with up to two H-bridge configurations.

It also features peak-and-hold control for electric valves and programmable gate current to minimize EMC compliance and switching noise.Digested.

It provides per-channel fault diagnostic functions such as battery short circuit, open load, and ground short circuit, logic BIST, HWSC-based overvoltage/undervoltage monitoring, and CC watchdog timer.

Additionally, it includes enhanced system reliability by monitoring the drain-source and shunt resistor voltages of the external MOSFET, ultra-fast overcurrent shutdown based on dual redundant fault-protection pins, ADC for battery and die temperature monitoring, and H-bridge current limiting.

The L98GD8 is currently in production and is available in a 10mm x 10mm TQFP64 package. The estimated price is $3.94 per unit in quantities of 1,000.
