Equipped with advanced energy-saving technology and powerful cybersecurity features

STMicroelectronics, a global semiconductor leader serving customers across the spectrum of electronics applications, is supporting a wide range of developments from industrial to IoT products with new MCUs featuring advanced power-saving technologies and robust cybersecurity features.

ST recently announced the launch of the STM32U3 microcontroller (MCU).

This MCU is designed to make remote and smart connectivity technologies easier to implement, delivering both sustainability and efficiency.

The STM32U3 uses ultra-low-power technology to enable long-term operation in energy-constrained environments such as coin-cell batteries, solar power, and thermoelectric sources.

It is widely used in healthcare devices such as utility meters, blood glucose meters, and insulin pumps, industrial sensors such as wildfire detectors and smoke detectors, and consumer products such as smart watches.

“The STM32U3 features innovative technologies, including the latest low-end design, to minimize dynamic power consumption and help companies achieve their sustainability goals,” said Patrick Adoun, General Manager, General Purpose MCU Division, STMicroelectronics.

In addition to energy efficiency, the STM32U3 also provides the security technologies required for IoT devices.

The CPU stores secret keys securely without exposing them, and ST pre-provisions device authentication before shipping, ensuring security and All efficiencies have been enhanced.

A variety of security mechanisms, including cryptographic accelerators, TrustZone® isolation, and PSA Level 3 authentication, help ensure compliance with new global regulations.

“Thanks to the STM32U3, we have been able to reduce power consumption in active mode to the μA/MHz level, while also adding new features,” said Manuel Frech, an engineer at SmacksTech, which develops animal health monitoring products as a real-world use case. “We have optimized power through advanced low-power modes and the new STOP3 feature.”
