Securing both efficiency and security through the integrated implementation of core equipment across higher-level organizations
Amid the trend of transitioning public institutions' business infrastructure to 5G wireless networks, KT has applied the '5G Business Network Hub Type' model for the first time to the Gyeonggi Provincial Government, where core equipment is integrated and built at a regional hub and jointly utilized by affiliated organizations. It is characterized by a design that enables independent network operation while reducing the problem of redundant construction across organizations.

KT announced on the 29th that it has applied a 5G business network hub-type service to the Gyeonggi Provincial Office for the first time.

The Gyeonggi Provincial Government installed the core equipment, GMG (Government Mobile Gateway), at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Data Center and opened a connected business network for seven affiliated local governments, including Suwon, Paju, and Uijeongbu.

This service is based on technology directly developed by KT Future Network Lab.

Existing 5G business networks required each government and local government to individually install security-approved equipment.

On the other hand, the hub-type model is a method in which equipment is integrated at a regional hub and utilized jointly by subordinate organizations.

KT explained that traffic can be separated and controlled by segment from terminals to the central network, allowing each organization to operate its network independently while using a common infrastructure.

Another advantage is that there is no need to set up large-scale equipment when adding a new business network.

Starting with its participation in the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's Intelligent Pilot Project in 2020, KT participated in the 5G Government Network Pilot Project in 2022.

Since 2024, we have been providing services to various customers, including public institutions.

KT announced that through this application to the Gyeonggi Provincial Government, it has secured operational experience targeting metropolitan local governments as a provider of the 5th National Information and Communications Service (GNS) '5G Government Network Service'.

In the future, we plan to further develop back-office functions that separate authority between superior and subordinate organizations to enhance independent operation and infrastructure efficiency.

Jeon Myeong-jun, Executive Vice President and Head of KT’s Enterprise Service Division, said, “This model is not only for metropolitan local governments, but"It is a business model that can be utilized by all public customers who share our internal infrastructure," he said, adding, "We will support the digital transformation of public customers through various platform services."
