Simultaneous support for centralized and edge radar architectures, expanding applications in ADAS and autonomous driving
As the transition to centralized radar architecture accelerates, mass-produced radar transceiver MMICs to support this have begun to be supplied to the market for the first time.
Infineon Technologies began mass production of the 8Tx8Rx radar transceiver RASIC™ CTRX8188F, based on a second-generation CMOS process, on the 30th.
This product is the first mass-produced MMIC to support a centralized radar architecture, and it also supports edge processing when combined with AURIX™ TC45.
The company explained that the centralized radar system transmits raw sensor data directly to the vehicle's central computer for processing, enabling cost reduction and performance improvement compared to the existing edge method.
The company stated that this product simultaneously meets cost and performance requirements as automakers and Tier 1 suppliers expand their investments in ADAS and autonomous driving platforms.
The company stated that the CTRX8188F provides industry-leading signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and noise figure (NF) performance, enabling the implementation of 4D/HD imaging radar capable of detecting pedestrians and vehicles at distances up to 400m.
Supports cascading configurations exceeding 32Tx32Rx, a single With a scalable architecture, it can accommodate various imaging radar requirements, such as entry-level ADAS and advanced autonomous driving systems.
It was added that the configurable CSI-2 interface features compatibility with existing and next-generation SerDes and asymmetric Ethernet communication technologies, simplifying integration with central processing solutions from major automotive SoC vendors.
Infineon offers the CARKIT radar development platform in various configurations to help customers reduce development costs and shorten development timelines.
CARKIT supports both centralized and edge radar architectures and is configured to reduce the burden of engineering resources by including software tools, example code, and a GUI.
