Integrated management of up to 36TB capacity and up to 120,000 workloads
Amid diversifying demands for enterprise data protection, Synology has introduced a new 1U form factor backup appliance targeting small and medium-sized business environments. It is characterized by the integration of multi-platform support and AI-based security features into compact hardware.

Synology announced on the 8th that it has expanded its ActiveProtect product lineup by launching the 1U ActiveProtect appliance DP5200.

The company explained that the DP5200 provides up to 36TB of raw capacity and supports the full enterprise backup capabilities of ActiveProtect Manager (APM).

Jia-Yu Liu, Vice President of Synology's Data Protection Business Unit, stated, "Many companies are looking for scalable data protection solutions tailored to their specific environments without increasing costs or operational complexity," adding, "The DP5200 is a space-efficient integrated solution designed for easy deployment by small and medium-sized enterprises."

DP5200 provides broad support for virtualization platforms such as VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V, as well as physical infrastructure including Windows and Linux servers and macOS.

SaaS applications such as Microsoft 365, Oracle and Microsoft SQL databases, and SMB, NetApp, and Nutanix-based file servers are also included in the protection.

With the APM 2.0 update scheduled for release in the third quarter of 2026, additional support for Azure VM, Amazon EC2, Nutanix AHV, Proxmox VE, and Google Workspace is also expected to be added.

The company stated that if configured as a central management server, up to 120,000 workloads and 1,000 servers can be managed in an integrated manner on a single screen.

In terms of security, it combines MFA-based access control with an AI-based architecture.

change Implements the 3-2-1-1-0 data protection principle through impossible WORM storage, logical air gap, and version-based tiering.

It is reported that APM 2.0 will add anomaly detection and malware scanning functions utilizing AI and machine learning (AI/ML), enabling the safety of recovered data to be verified in advance.

Meanwhile, Synology was named a 'Strong Performer' in this year's Gartner 'Voice of the Customer for Backup and Data Protection Platforms' evaluation, scoring 4.9 out of 5 points.

The DP5200 is available for purchase through Synology's global distribution and partner network.
