SMART7-based PROFET+2 products are ideal for lighting applications. Infineon Technologies' new power IC manufacturing technology SMART7 is designed for automotive applications such as body control modules and power distribution centers.
Power ICs based on SMART7 technology drive, diagnose, and protect loads in applications such as automotive heating, power distribution, air conditioning, interior and exterior lighting, and seat and mirror adjustment, providing a cost-effective and robust replacement for electromechanical relays and fuses. Based on thin-wafer technology, SMART7 reduces power loss and chip size.
Infineon has launched the PROFET™+2 and High Current PROFET™ high-side power switch families based on SMART7 and will launch the SPOC™+2 multichannel SPI high-side power controller within a year.

“Our PROFET+ switches, the predecessor family to PROFET+2, have been shipped in more than a billion units for over a decade,” said Andreas Doll, Vice President and General Manager, Automotive Body Power Business Unit at Infineon Technologies. “SMART7 power ICs reduce overall system costs for body and convenience applications with improved protection structures and lower power consumption in smaller packages,” he said.
The PROFET+2 family of products is designed for 12V automotive lighting applications and capacitive loads. Applications include LED lighting, halogen bulbs in exterior lighting control, interior lighting, and dimming.
PROFET+2 devices offer advanced diagnostic and protection features and are pin-compatible with the previous PROFET+ family, eliminating migration costs. Furthermore, replacing single-channel devices with dual-channel devices, or vice versa, requires no ECU layout changes. Compared to previous families, PROFET+2 devices offer up to 40% smaller package sizes and 50% lower current consumption, improving energy efficiency.
