Promoting joint R&D and technology exchange in scientific investigation
The Korea Electronics Technology Institute (President Shin Hee-dong) and the National Institute of Scientific Investigation (President Lee Bong-woo) are embarking on a full-scale expansion of scientific investigation technology through joint technology development in cutting-edge fields such as artificial intelligence (AI) video and voice.
On the 9th, KETI signed a business agreement (MoU) with the National Forensic Service for cooperation in scientific investigation research at its Seongnam headquarters in Gyeonggi Province.
With this business agreement as a starting point, KETI and the National Forensic Service have agreed to promote joint technology development in cutting-edge fields such as artificial intelligence (AI)-based image and audio analysis, while also supporting the diffusion of technology within the field of scientific investigation.
KETI is focusing on fostering core technologies in advanced intelligence fields, such as intelligent image processing technologies such as deep learning-based image recognition tracking and image quality improvement, and artificial intelligence technologies such as multimodal interaction and inference and natural language processing.
The National Forensic Service is a scientific investigation and analysis research institute under the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. It conducts research and development in the field of forensic engineering necessary for criminal investigations, including CCTV, video, and photography, as well as audio interpretation/enhancement technologies, and provides interpretation and analysis support necessary for major criminal incidents.
Through this agreement, KETI and the National Forensic Service will: △exchange video and audio analysis technology necessary for scientific investigation; △personnel exchange for utilizing video and audio analysis technology. △We plan to strengthen R&D cooperation in cutting-edge fields, such as jointly discovering new technology needs in the field of scientific investigation and supporting the establishment of government strategies.
At the signing ceremony held on this day, key officials from the Intelligent Image Processing Research Center and Artificial Intelligence Research Center of the KETI Intelligence Information Research Headquarters, the Digital Department of the National Forensic Service's Forensic Engineering Department, and the Forensic Science Education and Research Center attended and discussed key cooperation technologies in the field of advanced scientific investigation.
KETI's Intelligence Information Research Center possesses detection technology that identifies deepfake videos and audio based on video synthesis and identification technology, such as implementing hyper-realistic characters that imitate the behavioral patterns of people.
KETI Director Shin Hee-dong said, “The key to future public security is the development of cutting-edge science and technology, and KETI is the optimal partner for the implementation and diffusion of promising ICT technologies.” He added, “I hope that the agreement between the two organizations today will lead to a science-based public security society that guarantees the safety of the people in the future.”
National Forensic Service Director Lee Bong-woo said, “Recently, with the development of artificial intelligence technology, new types of crimes such as deepfakes are threatening the safety of the people,” and added, “We will join forces with the two organizations to research and develop technology so that we can create a society where the people are safe.”
