u-blox, 'High-precision positioning technology' dominates the lawnmower robot market

Expected to generate over $100 million in revenue in the long term

u-blox (Korea Branch Manager Kwang-soo Son), a global leader in positioning and wireless communication technology, is expected to dominate the lawnmower robot market with its high-precision positioning technology and generate more than $100 million in revenue in this field alone in the future.

u-blox announced today that it has won a number of key projects in the robotic lawnmower (RLM) sector and achieved notable results through collaborations with leading manufacturers in the sector.

This project order is not just a nominal record, but is expected to generate long-term revenue of more than $100 million starting in 2024.

This achievement strengthens u-blox’s position as a leader in high-precision GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) technology and strengthens its strategic position and influence in shaping the future of robotic lawnmowers.

The robotic lawn mower market is experiencing significant growth. According to a 2023 ABI report, the robotic lawn mower market is expected to reach 2.6 million units in 2024 and grow at a CAGR of around 18.5% over the next few years.

In addition, as high-precision GNSS technology is expected to achieve a penetration rate of approximately 33% in the lawn mower robot market by the end of the 2020s, various autonomous robots with high-precision GNSS technology are expected to be utilized in manufacturing, logistics, infrastructure monitoring, smart cities, and other Internet of Things (IoT) fields.

Conventional lawn mower robots, which usually work by setting up a boundary line to mark the area to be mowed, can be easily damaged and require a lot of work to install and maintain.

Robotic lawn mowers equipped with basic sensors have rudimentary obstacle avoidance capabilities, and often move in random patterns, which can easily lead to inefficient work results. This means that they have to spend more time and electricity to complete the job properly, which inevitably leads to higher operating costs.

Advances in GNSS technology, particularly the development of real-time kinematic (RTK) GNSS systems capable of delivering centimeter-level accuracy, have enabled significant improvements in the performance of robotic lawn mowers in a sustainable manner.

Precise positioning and navigation eliminate the need for boundaries, allow for systematic mowing without overlapping, evenly mow in a desired pattern while protecting sensitive areas such as flower beds from accidental damage, and easily implement stylish stripe patterns or intricate designs to enhance the aesthetics of your lawn.
