CXL-based solutions, AI infrastructure cost benefits
Hyperscalers and server companies show a lot of interest at CES
Panesia announced on the 10th that it participated in CES 2025 held in Las Vegas, USA on the 7th (local time) and won the CES Innovation Award for the second consecutive year for its solution for expanding GPU memory, the 'CXL-based GPU Memory Expansion Kit'.
Panesia's GPU memory expansion kit is a solution developed using the company's CXL IP. Unlike existing systems that require the purchase of multiple expensive GPUs to meet high memory requirements in large-scale AI services such as ChatGPT, it has attracted attention from the global market by enabling selective expansion of required memory resources.
The submitted technology was recognized for its technical and product quality, winning the CES 2025 Innovation Award for the second consecutive year. Panesia said that it received a lot of interest from various AI infrastructure-related companies, including hyperscalers and server providers, that visited its booth.
The great advantage of this Panesia solution is that it can reduce AI infrastructure costs. Recently, large-scale AI services that require more than several terabytes of memory, such as ChatGPT, have been widely used. This cost-effective expansion of GPU memory is possible thanks to Panesia's CXL IP embedded within the device.
By connecting the CXL-GPU device and the CXL memory expansion device, the memory of these devices can be integrated into a single memory space. A series of operations for managing the integrated memory are automatically processed by Panesia’s high-performance CXL IP, and the CXL-GPU can access the memory of the memory expansion device with only general read/write commands, just like when accessing the internal memory of the GPU. As a result, the user can enjoy the effect of expanding the internal system memory capacity of the GPU.
A Panesia official said, “It is meaningful that experts from CTA have recognized the technology and innovation of the CXL 3.1 IP we developed,” expressing their joy at winning the award for the second consecutive year.
