More than 4 times growth in 1 year, space transformation with AI agent
GitHub Copilot surpasses 15 million users, ushering in a new era of AI development support.
Microsoft recently announced that GitHub Copilot has surpassed 15 million users worldwide.
This represents a growth rate of more than four times over the past year, indicating that developers are showing high interest in AI-based code writing assistance tools.
This growth is due to the continued development and product innovation of VS Code and the GitHub team. Microsoft has made 85 feature updates to GitHub Copilot this year, reflecting various improvements such as MCP support, custom key settings, and next-generation code editing suggestions.
In particular, the introduction of Agent Mode in VS Code has further enhanced the functionality of Copilot.
Developers can automate repetitive code tasks, recognize errors, and fix them immediately.
Autofix functionality has been added to make it easier to fix vulnerabilities, and Copilot’s code review agent has already reviewed over 8 million pull requests.
GitHub Copilot started out as an AI-based programming assistance tool, but is now evolving into a software engineering (SWE) agent. In the future, GitHub is expected to transform beyond a simple code repository into a development space with AI agents.
Meanwhile, Microsoft will provide an opportunity to experience the latest features of Copilot firsthand at Microsoft Build, which will be held in Seattle, USA from May 19 to 22.
The event will feature live demos, a variety of technical sessions, and opportunities to interact directly with Microsoft and GitHub representatives.
