Participate in securing AI competitiveness and fostering excellent talents in AI future research
Samsung Electronics will continue industry-academia cooperation by establishing an AI joint research center with Seoul National University to secure technological and product competitiveness and foster talent in the artificial intelligence (AI) field.
Samsung Electronics and Seoul National University signed a business agreement to establish an 'AI Joint Research Center' at Seoul National University's Global Engineering Education Center in Gwanak-gu, Seoul on the 17th.
The signing ceremony on this day was attended by Samsung Electronics DX Division CTO and Samsung Research President Kyung-Hoon Jeon, Samsung Research Global AI Center Director Vice President Dae-Hyun Kim, Seoul National University College of Engineering Dean Young-Oh Kim, and Professor Yoo Kang, a joint program in artificial intelligence at the Graduate School of Engineering.
Through this business agreement, Samsung Electronics DX Division and Seoul National University College of Engineering Graduate School Joint Program in Artificial Intelligence will conduct industry-academic collaborative research projects in the latest AI technology fields at the AI Joint Research Center for the next three years.
The research task consists of securing detailed technologies for △On-Device AI and △Multi-Modal AI.
Samsung Electronics has equipped the Galaxy S24, released earlier this year, with various AI technologies such as Circle to Search, real-time interpretation, and photo assist, and is expanding the range of products to which AI technology is applied, such as the launch of Bespoke AI and AI TV.
Samsung Electronics is securing core AI technologies through industry-academia cooperation with Seoul National University in the rapidly changing AI field. It is expected that this will strengthen product technology competitiveness.
In addition, we plan to conduct recruitment-linked activities to foster and secure excellent talents for master's and doctoral level researchers participating in the project.
Samsung Electronics President Kyunghoon Jeon said, “Through the agreement to establish an AI joint research center between Seoul National University and Samsung Electronics, we expect that Samsung Electronics will be able to solidify its technological and product competitiveness in the AI field and contribute to securing excellent talent in the future research field of AI.”
Dean Kim Young-oh of Seoul National University’s College of Engineering said, “Seoul National University and Samsung Electronics will actively cooperate to ensure that the agreement is faithfully implemented to achieve each other’s goals, and I hope that the two institutions will maintain close cooperation not only in the field of AI but also in various other fields.”
