A key partner in power and safety management, providing cutting-edge technologies and solutions

Schneider Electric (Korea Branch Representative Jiwoong Kwon), a global company leading the digital innovation in energy management and automation, actively participated in the restoration project of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris as a key partner in power and safety management.

Schneider announced that it provided cutting-edge technology and solutions to successfully complete the reconstruction project of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, a symbolic cultural heritage site in France.

In April 2019, the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris suffered a fire that caused the spire and wooden roof to collapse and serious damage to the main structure. Since then, large-scale restoration work has been initiated under the leadership of the French government, and Schneider Electric has actively participated in the restoration project as a key partner in power and safety management.

Schneider Electric provided a variety of equipment and solutions to ensure a stable power supply and enhance technical safety at the cathedral reconstruction site.

The main facilities include 20kV high-voltage cells (HV cells), 20kV/410V 1250kVA transformers, general and departmental electrical switchboards, inverters, safety lighting, electrical devices, etc. In addition, an environment has been created where power consumption can be efficiently controlled and monitored through smart network technologies such as automatic control systems, sensors, controllers, and communication buses.

State-of-the-art solutions for fire prevention have also been introduced. Acti9 Active AFDD devices for socket circuits have been installed to prevent fire hazards that may occur in electrical circuits in advance, and all electrical cabinets are equipped with HeatTags to build a system that detects overheated cables in real time and provides early warning. This fire prevention system prevents the recurrence of fire accidents and enhances the safety and reliability of the cathedral.

During the project, Schneider Electric will undertake engineering, maintenance, research, commissioning, and programming of the electrical infrastructure, as well as training for the cathedral’s management team that will be responsible for future system operations. This will lay the foundation for the restored cathedral to operate sustainably and efficiently.

In particular, about 60 Schneider Electric employees directly participated in the technology transfer program, transferring their expertise and cutting-edge technologies to local workers and enhancing the sustainability of the restoration project. This is evaluated as an example that went beyond simple technical support and contributed to ensuring that the cathedral restoration could provide stable and sustainable value to future generations.

“Notre Dame is more than just a building; it is an iconic and spiritual legacy for people all over the world. Schneider Electric is honored to be contributing our technological expertise and innovation to the restoration of this iconic site,” said Gilles Vermot Desroches, Schneider Electric’s Director of Civic and Institutional Affairs. “The Notre Dame restoration project is a testament to Schneider Electric’s commitment to technological innovation and sustainability. Our cutting-edge solutions combine sustainability and safety to ensure that the cathedral will be maintained for many years to come.”
