The introduction of automatic door/trunk opening/closing, built-in handles, electric curtains, electric seats, and vibration warning steering wheels, which did not exist in the past, is accelerating the increase in the adoption of motors in vehicles. Accordingly, motor control solutions are required for various devices, and the demand for meeting various standards and safety criteria is also increasing.
Meanwhile, Infineon will hold a webinar on the topic of low-power motor solutions on November 5. Infineon Korea Automotive Business Division Manager Kim Hyo-hoon will present a webinar on the topic of 'Low-power motor solutions and their use in body applications for improving vehicle convenience and safety.' We met with Manager Kim Hyo-hoon ahead of time to talk about the latest trends, Infineon's motor solutions, and an introduction to the webinar.
■The number of motors in vehicles has been increasing recently. The reasons for the increase in the use of motors and demand for motors in vehicles are as follows:
When we say 'motor' in a vehicle, we usually think of the drivetrain motor, also known as the traction motor. However, in reality, motors are widely used in various devices for user convenience, such as side mirrors, power seats, power windows, and wipers. Usually, about 50-60 motors are installed per vehicle, and in the case of high-end vehicles, over 100 motors are installed.
As convenience is mentioned as one of the recent mega trends in the automobile industry, the demand for motors is increasing as various functions for the convenience of passengers are required in recent vehicles compared to the past.
In addition, as safety standards and awareness have greatly improved, the demand for safety features that require motors, such as Electric Power Steering, Electric Parking Brake, and Reversible Seatbelt Pretensioner, is also increasing.

Additionally, for products without a built-in MCU, device drivers are supported for each product, so there is an advantage in that registers and device settings can be conveniently set regardless of which MCU is used.
