Due to decreasing power voltage levels and increasing operating frequencies, device malfunctions caused by power and ground noise are continuously increasing. P/G noise not only causes EMI failures but can also have adverse effects on device operation, making noise reduction design technology increasingly important.

On the 28th, a seminar was held at COEX in Samseong-dong, Seoul with the theme of ‘Power Integrity: Design Technology to Reduce Power Noise in Electronic Devices.’

At this event, hosted by Io Culture Publishing, CEO Kim Jong-hoon of EMCDoctors Inc. appeared as a presenter and introduced the causes of P/G noise and reduction design technology necessary for hardware designers, as well as power integrity (PI) technology.

The session on this day included various sessions including a Q&A session, such as: △Definition and understanding of power supply voltage noise and power integrity; △Power integrity evaluation index: Understanding impedance parameters; △Power supply noise generation principles and reduction design technology due to resonance phenomenon; and △Power supply voltage noise reduction using decoupling capacitors.

In the field, the work of PCB designers is being disparaged as people say that even if power noise design is done well, it is just a waste of money. Nevertheless, poor quality design is noticeable because it leads to EMI failure and device malfunction. It is no exaggeration to say that a design that does not cause any problems in device development is a good design.

Regarding this, CEO Kim Jong-hoon pointed out that “there is still a culture in which companies outsource PCB design and artwork rather than internalize them,” and that “as a result, companies are competing on how cheaply and quickly they can produce designs rather than improving the quality of PCB design and artwork.”

To prevent low-quality designs and defects resulting from this, CEO Kim Jong-hoon proposed the concept of the 'Premium Artwork Process' and shared know-how and insights for developers in the field.
