Samsung 5nm-based Gaonchips design house partnership contract
Outlook for 20 or so clients in the first half of next year, establishment of a strategic production group
The current AI semiconductor market is causing great changes across industries along with the rapid development of AI technology. In particular, the introduction of low-power, high-performance, low-cost AI infrastructure is essential in smart factories, physical security systems, robots, and AI servers. Accordingly, the demand for AI semiconductors is rapidly increasing.
AI semiconductor company DeepX announced on the 8th that it will begin mass production of its first-generation AI semiconductor products. It recently signed a mass production contract with Gaonchips, a design house of Samsung Foundry, for mass production of the DX-M1 based on the 5nm process.
DeepX received commercial samples of the DX-M1 from Samsung Foundry in June of this year and conducted several mass production verification tests, determining that it had secured mass production potential in key indicators. It said that compared to the engineering samples produced last year, computational performance and power consumption have improved.
DeepX has produced prototypes through MPW using Gaonchips and Samsung Foundry's 5, 14, and 28nm processes, and has provided AI semiconductors and software development tool DXNN to more than 120 global companies in the U.S., Greater China, Europe, and Japan. These customers and partners have evaluated the performance of DeepX's prototypes, and around 20 companies are currently developing mass-produced applications, so DeepX's inclusion in mass-produced products is expected to occur soon.
DeepX has conducted compatibility tests with various standard interfaces and form factors required by the industry based on chips to meet the timing of this market, and has prepared to respond to various applications and portfolios according to customer needs. DeepX expects to have mass production development collaborations with about 10 global customers in the second half of this year, and to have more than 20 customers in the first half of next year.
In addition, DeepX recruited talents with over 10 years of professional experience and know-how in the system semiconductor field and established a strategic production group to effectively target the global market for its first mass-produced product. It systematized management to: △secure foundry yield, △establish cost management system, △manage supply chain, △establish system for product quality and testing, and △establish efficient cooperation system with design houses and OSAT.
DeepX's DX-M1, which is being mass-produced this time, is expected to be a milestone for Korea's first AI semiconductor to enter the global market. DeepX said that in the future, its goal is to lead the AI semiconductor market in North America, Greater China, and Europe by providing the best AI solutions that meet the diverse needs of customers.
