Reduce customer costs when applying server systems
SK Hynix completes customer certification of CXL 2.0 96GB DDR5, contributing to a dramatic reduction in total cost of ownership for customers.
SK Hynix announced on the 23rd that it has completed customer certification of its CXL 2.0-based DRAM CMM (CXL Memory Module)-DDR5 96GB (gigabyte) product.
CXL (Compute eXpress Link) is a next-generation solution that efficiently connects CPUs, GPUs, and memories within a computing system to support large-capacity, ultra-high-speed operations. It is based on the PCIe interface, so it has fast data transfer speeds and a pooling function that allows efficient use of memory.
SK Hynix emphasized, “If this product is applied to a server system, the capacity will increase by 50% compared to existing DDR5 modules, and the bandwidth of the product itself will expand by 30%, allowing it to process 36 GB of data per second,” adding, “This can contribute to drastically reducing the total cost of ownership invested by customers building and operating data centers.”
Following the certification of the 96GB product, the company is also in the process of certifying the 128GB product with other customers. This product is equipped with a 32Gb (gigabit) DDR5 DRAM that uses the 10nm-class 5th generation (1b) fine process, providing high power efficiency. The company also plans to complete this certification within a short period of time and build a portfolio that can supply products to customers at the right time.
SK Hynix is also working to expand the CXL ecosystem along with the development of CXL DRAM. The company developed this product and its optimized software, HMSDK, in-house and installed it on Linux, the world’s largest open source operating system, in September of last year, thereby improving the performance of systems to which CXL is applied.
SK Hynix Vice President Kang Wook-sung (in charge of next-generation product planning) said, “We are developing various solution products to realize optimal innovation that overcomes existing systems that are expensive and have limited expansion,” and “We will provide optimized value to customers by dramatically improving the expandability and flexibility of memory while meeting their diverse application needs.”
