IBM Watson X Platform Delivers $3.5 Billion in Productivity Improvements Over 2 Years
Maximizing external system connectivity, user communication, and collaboration efficiency through openness
“AI agents don’t just save employees’ time; they enable them to work in new ways, transforming the productivity and business operating models of enterprises. IBM is leveraging the Watsonx platform to apply AI and automation to the front lines of enterprise processes, and has achieved $3.5 billion in productivity gains and $12.7 billion in free cash flow over the past two years since January 2023. This supports various growth drivers ranging from talent acquisition, advanced technology research and development, and strategic acquisitions.”
IBM Korea held a press conference on the 21st and introduced IBM's differentiated AI strategy and agentic AI solutions for corporate business environments.
Lee Ji-eun, CTO of IBM Korea, who gave the first presentation, emphasized that the agent AI developed by IBM goes beyond simple task automation and has as its core principles ‘openness’ that freely connects various systems within the company and external partners, and ‘expertise’ that integrates the latest machine learning technology and accumulated expertise.
Executive Director Lee Ji-eun explained, “IBM’s Agent AI is based on an open platform structure, and naturally connects with existing corporate systems such as ERP and CRM. This breaks down the boundaries between internal and external information, and integrates and analyzes them in real time, increasing work efficiency.” He continued, “Agent AI does not remain a closed system, but rather plays a role in promoting transparency and sharing of information by openly utilizing various data sources and interfaces.”
Additionally, “openness is an important factor in expanding the environment for communication and collaboration with users, as well as simply connecting with external systems. “Our agent AI pursues an open platform that is easily accessible to everyone, and is designed to naturally facilitate collaboration between departments, teams, and even other companies,” he added.
In terms of expertise, Executive Director Lee Ji-eun emphasized that IBM's agent AI does not stop at simply processing repetitive tasks, but supports strategic decision-making through in-depth data analysis and advanced predictive algorithms.
Executive Director Lee Ji-eun said, “This system has professional analysis and response capabilities, such as precisely analyzing massive amounts of data flowing in in real time, diagnosing risks in advance, and suggesting appropriate measures.” He added, “Agent AI is leading change by communicating in real time with various departments within the company through various updates for each time zone.”
Expertise plays a crucial role in enabling this agent AI to evolve beyond a simple automation tool into a ‘smart partner’ that can deeply engage with a company’s future strategy.
He then explained agentic AI. He said that agentic AI refers to an environment that links not only AI agents, which have been attracting attention recently, but also various AI assistants and business applications. He said that AI agents that autonomously perform tasks for users or other systems are combined to minimize human intervention compared to existing AI, and that it is possible to autonomously perform complex tasks by linking with various systems.
Executive Director Lee Ji-eun said, “Agent AI freely exchanges internal company data and external market information based on openness and expertise, and uses this to solve problems in the field in real time. “This system gives us confidence that it is an essential smart business platform in the future era of digital transformation,” he said.

Next, IBM Korea's Managing Director Kim Ji-kwan personally demonstrated the company's latest AI solution, 'Watson X Orchestrate', and announced that agentic AI is gaining attention as an innovative tool that maximizes work efficiency in corporate settings.
This demo particularly emphasizes the ability to streamline complex business processes and allow users to automate tasks by easily issuing commands without any specialized knowledge.
“Watson x Orchestrate is designed to simplify complex workflows, allowing users to perform desired tasks with just a few clicks,” explained Executive Director Kim Ji-kwan, adding that the system’s intuitive interface and automation features played a major role in significantly reducing task processing time.
In particular, the ‘easy accessibility’ of agentic AI stood out in this demonstration. It was impressive that even non-experts could quickly use it without separate training thanks to the intuitive interface that anyone could use, without the need for complex integration work with existing systems.
Through the demo, Watson X Orchestrate was confirmed to be highly efficient in linking work with each department by being equipped with real-time data analysis and work automation functions.
Kim Ji-kwan, managing director, added, “Our goal is to spread AI technology throughout the company and create an environment where all members can use it easily and conveniently. This will shorten work time, allowing us to focus on creative and strategic work.”
