Full-scale integration of agricultural machinery AI, Daedong Group takes active steps
Daedong AI Lab newly established, new CEO AI solution confidence
At the AI Convergence Agriculture Global AgTech Conference held on the 23rd, Daedong AI Lab CEO Choi Jun-ki revealed Daedong, a domestic agricultural machinery company, its vision for AI innovation, robots, and development into a cutting-edge digital agricultural company.
Daedong announced in May of this year that it established Daedong AI Lab, an AI robot company, as an affiliate and that it would accelerate the internalization of AI technology within the Daedong Group and the development of autonomous driving and robot AI systems.
This reveals Daedong’s ambition to prepare for the future market by internalizing AI robot capabilities and to accelerate the development of AI models for autonomous robots in agriculture and non-agricultural fields. Accordingly, Daedong Group established Daedong AI Lab, an AI research company, to begin the full-scale transformation of all product lines to AI robots.
On this day, Choi Jun-ki, CEO of Daedong AI Lab, emphasized in his lecture, “Daedong has solid on-device AI power and is placing AI solutions on top of various power machines,” and said, “We are approaching it by dividing it into smart work machines, standalone robots, and platform robots that can change work machines on top of moving bodies.”
The recent trend in the machinery and robot industry is innovation and platformization of AI convergence. Hyundai Motor Company is seeking changes, including the acquisition of Boston Dynamics, SDV, infotainment, and AI technology. The traditional machine-based industry is transforming into a robot, AI, and platform industry.
The platformization of vehicles is a platform that functions to create synergy by stacking AI, SW, and robots on top of traditional mechanical power units. In this context, Daedong is able to implement intelligent agricultural machinery as well as personalized, customized agricultural solutions by integrating SW, AI, and various work machines (robots) on top of agricultural machinery.
CEO Choi Jun-ki also cited the advancement of AI as the reason why this approach is possible, and predicted that a world will unfold in which farming work can be done sufficiently with small amounts of data by utilizing these robots. Given the nature of domestic agriculture, large-scale mechanization work is difficult, but Daedong agreed with the view that cluster operation of small machines can be sufficiently efficient for domestic farming work.

In particular, Daedong AI Lab announced that it is investing in building a service based on the LLM model, and is providing support for basic questions about tractors and agricultural-related inquiries through AI agents using GPT-4-based services.
CEO Choi said, “The traffic to the AI agent was higher than expected, and we are working hard to improve it because we judged that farmers are thirsty for a channel where they can ask questions comfortably.” It was reported that in the future, they plan to update multimodal-based solutions such as meteorological disaster and pest detection.
As AI development has made it possible to implement solutions and functions that were previously impossible, rapid on-device AI integration and function implementation are taking place in the agricultural machinery sector as well. The key is to minimize costs while maximizing production and sales, and expectations are high about the level of optimization of the total cost of ownership of AI-integrated agricultural robots compared to labor cost reductions due to improved work efficiency.
