2024 Display Industry Trends and Market Outlook Announced
Panel area up 9%, sales up 7%, OLED recovery rate increases
The display market, which was stagnant last year, is starting to recover. Expectations are high that the industry will recover, centering on large TV panels and monitors, thanks to large-scale sporting events, replacement cycles, and trends toward larger sizes.
Omdia held the 'Korea Display Conference (KDC) Spring 2024' at Yangjae L Tower on the 13th.
This event will be held over two days with nine sessions each on the topic of global display industry trends and market outlook. Omdia Market Analysis experts provide insights into the latest trends and developments that can shed light on the global display industry trends.
Nine sessions were presented on the 13th, covering the latest display market technologies and industries, large displays, TVs, mobile and various use cases.
△Outlook on the top 10 topics in the display industry △Mid- to long-term display market outlook △Analysis of the latest trends in display demand, supply, and manufacturing technology △Outlook on the large display industry △Outlook and analysis of the global TV set market △Latest analysis and outlook on the TV supply chain, etc. We looked into the display market and related industries in 2024.
David Hsieh, Omdia's senior research director, made his first presentation, saying that 2024 is expected to be a year of recovery for the display industry, adding, "Compared to last year, display market revenue in 2024 is expected to grow by 7%, and by 9% in terms of area."
While both LCD and LED recorded negative growth in shipment area in 2023 due to the sharp decline in demand and inventory buildup, in 2024, the positive signal of the US GDP outlook exceeding expectations and large-scale sporting events expected this year, such as the Paris Olympics, Copa America, and Europa League, are likely to have an impact as factors driving demand for large-panel TVs.
The TV replacement cycle is gradually growing due to the demand for larger panels rather than the growth driven by increasing demand for sets. The market for large-panel products, both LCD and OLED, is on an upward trend.
Omdia predicted that the OLED market in 2024 will see a 12% increase in unit sales, a 25% increase in area, and a 10% increase in sales compared to last year.
Meanwhile, Omdia Managing Director Jeong Yoon-seong said, “China is aggressively targeting the large-screen TV market with LCD panels. He mentioned that “Amid the ongoing downturn, a 100-inch product priced at $1,999 could pose a threat to the domestic OLED industry,” and predicted that “since the OLED monitor market is likely to actually turn a profit, if the OLED TV market is not easy, there is a possibility that they will focus on the monitor market.”
Meanwhile, Omdia KDC Spring 2024 will begin with an event on the 13th and continue on the 14th with various display market analyses to be announced, including: △Global smartphone market △China's automotive display market trends △Stereoscopic near-eye display for AR·VR·XR applications △Development of display drive IC market △Latest information on display optical film market and technology in 2024.
